AccMan TalkBack: The taint of Web 2.0 marketing and Office 2.0

Dennis - interesting to hear your feedback on the conversation with Debbie. I'd love some more specific detail on how you found my questions lacking in depth.

Oh - and I probably should mention that while I have an extensive marketing background, I also spent a number of years as a news writer and producer. Tell me what you'd have done differently - diaper references aside.

Thanks for asking back Maggie - It felt like a piece of pure reporting rather than discussion. I would have challenged the dismissive manner in which Ms Weil retorted: 'Who are these people anyway?'as one of a number of what I saw as condescending remarks. To me it missed an opportunity but then I come from the Paxman school of hackery so have a different perspective and approach.

Dennis - if by "pure reporting" you mean "objective", yes, that was my intention. I wanted to discuss what had occurred, the reaction to it and Debbie's position. I wasn't aiming for an opinion piece.

I do have one regret, however, and of course hindsight is 20/20 (Susan Scrupski and I were actually discussing this a week or so ago). When Debbie made the "Who are these people?!?" remark, I should have replied, "Well, some would argue that they are your peers and colleagues." My bad, Internet.

Nevertheless, to characterize the interview and all marketers everywhere as "lacking in depth" pissed me off pretty seriously. I guess I come from the "Call me a lightweight and I'll tear you a new one" school of journalism.

Maggie - we come from different positions. I'll leave it at that.
